MEDICARE AEP CHECKLIST

The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) can be a stressful and confusing time, but having a plan and the right support makes all the difference. There are some important changes in Medicare and Medicare plans moving into 2025. To help you prepare, I've put together an AEP Checklist, emphasizing the benefits of working with Ben Murray, your trusted local, independent insurance broker, and also a list of things NOT to do

AEP Checklist - 2025 medicare plans

  1. Review the 2025 "Medicare & You" Handbook

Each year, It is updated with new information on Medicare costs and policies. Reviewing this is essential for staying informed. But remember, navigating these changes can be complicated—that’s where expertise can make all the difference.

  2. Review Your Current Coverage

Look at your current plan and assess whether it meets your current needs. Ask yourself: What do I like? What do I dislike? Have there been any changes in my health that may require different coverage? Understanding how well your plan aligns with your health needs is the first step.

  3. Check for Changes

Your plan will send you an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC), outlining updates and changes in your plan for 2025. Review it carefully. Have the premiums, deductibles, or coverage changed? Compare these changes with your current and future health care needs.

  4. Gather Your Information

Have a list of your current medications, doctors, and healthcare providers handy. You'll need this information when comparing new plans. I can help you organize these details to ensure you’re making the best choice for your situation.

  5. Schedule a Consultation

Don’t navigate AEP alone. DON'T make any of the mistakes listed BELOW. Set up a one-on-one consultation, also BELOW, over the phone or in face-to-face appointment.

  6. Evaluate Plan Options with Ben

If your current Medicare plan no longer meets your needs, it’s wise to explore other options. Even if your plan seems suitable, it’s beneficial to shop around and check for better benefits or lower costs. Each year, starting on October 1, insurance companies release new Medicare plan details.

This competitive environment provides an opportunity to compare plans and potentially find one that suits you better. I'm here to help you review your ALL options annually to ensure you're getting the best coverage available for your situation with unbiased options that are tailored to your unique circumstances.

The DON'Ts

To make the most of the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) and ensure you don’t accidentally switch to a plan that doesn't suit your healthcare needs, here are the key things to avoid:

  1. DON'T make changes without talking to your independent broker. (Ben Murray)

Switching plans without consulting Ben Murray, your local, independent broker, could cause you to lose his expert guidance and advocacy.

Why You Need Your Local Broker

Switching your Medicare plan without your local broker's guidance can unintentionally sever your relationship with them. Whether you switch directly with an insurance carrier, over the phone with another agent, or through a new representative, this action removes your independent broker as your advocate.

Unbiased Advice:

Independent brokers offer objective guidance, comparing plans across multiple carriers.

Personalized Support:

They know your unique needs and help find the right coverage for you.

Advocacy:

If issues arise, your broker advocates for you, ensuring you receive the care and coverage you deserve.

  1. DON'T be swayed by TV ads, unsolicited phone calls, or junk mail

Many ads offer "free" services, but the fine print often reveals hidden costs. Always verify the details with your trusted advisor before making any changes.

  2. DON'T forget to review the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC)

Failing to check this document could leave you unaware of changes in your current plan that might negatively impact your coverage.

  3. DON'T assume all Medicare plans are the same

Different plans have varying networks, costs, and benefits. It’s essential to shop around to find one that best suits your needs, but make sure you're doing so with my help to avoid costly mistakes.

  4. DON'T switch plans without verifying your doctor or medications are covered

Some plans might have narrower networks or exclude certain medications. Always confirm that your preferred providers and prescriptions are covered.

  5. DON'T wait until the last minute

AEP runs from October 15th to December 7th, and it's one of the busiest times of the year for insurance brokers, insurance companies, and Social Security offices. Start early to avoid delays. I'm ready to assist you, but the earlier you start, the better he can help you make informed decisions before the rush.

Medicare AEP doesn’t have to be overwhelming when you have a local expert like me in your corner. From reviewing your current plan to exploring new options, I'll will guide you every step of the way. Don’t wait—schedule your consultation today and ensure your Medicare plan works for you in 2025!
